Main Changes to SEND
SEND=Special Educational Needs/Disabilities
There is a new SEND Code of Practice (C.O.P.) for people aged 0-25 years.
It is aimed at creating a more family/person-centred approach.
Schools and Local Authorities now publish a Special Educational Needs Information Report.
This Special Educational Needs Information Report informs parents about what each individual school can offer and provide, in particular for children with SEND. ( available on school website and Liverpool Early Help Directory)
Early Help and Assessment Tools (EHAT) will replace CAFs. (Common Assessment Framework)
Education Health Care Plans(EHCP) will replace statements.
There will be no School Action (SA) or School Action Plus (SAP)-these will be replaced with one category- SEN Support.
These changes will be phased in over 3 years, so children who have existing statements will remain on these until they are they are transferred to EHC Plan. When reviewed as part as the Local Authority's Transfer plan they will be updated to the new frameworks and formats.
