Maths Statement of Intent
To deliver every child a curriculum that will help them to develop a good understanding of all aspects of Maths, teaching skills and then embedding them through reasoning and problem solving, in preparation for their life ahead.
Curriculum Implementation
At The Trinity, children study mathematics daily covering a broad and balanced mathematical curriculum including elements of number, calculation, geometry, measures and statistics. Alongside daily maths lessons additional Maths Meetings are held. These consolidate previous learning and ensure that the children retain skills and knowledge. We use the mastery approach to teaching maths and follow Ark Curriculum Plus. This programme helps children to deepen their learning in order that they are able to solve varied fluency and reasoning problems confidently.
Year 4 Multiplication Test
Schools are required to administer an online multiplication tables check to year 4 pupils. The purpose of the test is to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics. It helps us to identify pupils who have not yet mastered their times tables, so that additional support can be provided. To support the children with their multiplication practice we use ‘Times Table Rockstars’ as an online and fun learning platform.
